Punjab set to utilise Pakistan’s own satellite for high speed internet

LAHORE: Senator Anusha Rehman said that Punjab will become the first province in Pakistan where citizens will benefit from broadband services through Pakistan’s own satellite.

She said this while chairing a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister’s Office to review plans for providing high-speed broadband services to the people of Punjab. During the meeting, detailed consultations were held on the provision of ultra-fast broadband connectivity to citizens across the province through satellite technology. The meeting was attended by Maj-Gen (retd) Ali Farhan, Managing Director NTC; M Usman Sadiq, Director General Technical SUPARCO; Secretary Information Technology Punjab, and other relevant officials.

It was decided in the meeting that, in line with the directions of CM Maryam Nawaz, all modern technological optionsincluding satellite beam technology will be utilised to ensure reliable broadband services in remote educational institutions and hospitals across the province. Pakistan possesses its own advanced satellite technology, and it is essential to fully leverage this national capability.

The CM Punjab is utilizing all available resources to fulfill her commitment to empowering skilled youth through the use of high-speed technology and by providing dignified employment opportunities.

SUPARCO and NTC presented a joint proposal to Senator AnushaRehman, under which satellite-based broadband services will be extended to remote areas of Punjab. For this purpose, SUPARCO and NTC will establish two demonstration stations in North and South Punjab within the next two weeks. Following successful testing, satellite-based broadband services will be rolled out in remote areas of Punjab within the next six months.
