KOHAT: The participant of a meeting was informed that completion of the Kohat-Kharlachi railway link project would lead to a significant improvement in commercial activities, tourism and passenger mobility.
This was disclosed at a high-level meeting regarding the Kohat-Kharlachi railway link project held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Kohat Division Syed Motasim Billah Shah. The meeting was attended by senior officials of Pakistan Railways as well as the deputy commissioners of Kohat, Karak, Hangu, Orakzai and Kurram districts. Participants discussed the technical, administrative and economic aspects of the proposed 192-kilometre-long modern railway track.
It was told that overall economic activity in Kohat division, KP and adjoining areas would also be enhanced.The commissioner said that the multi-billion rupees project would help remove longstanding transportation and trade bottlenecks, create new employment opportunities and effectively integrate underdeveloped areas into the national economy.
He said that the people of Kohat, Karak, Hangu, Orakzai and Kurram would directly benefit from the project.The meeting stressed the need for accelerating planning, feasibility studies and inter-departmental coordination to ensure timely implementation.
Officials informed that the project was being pursued under the guidance of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister and chief secretary and was being supervised by the Project Management and Reforms Unit (PMRU).
