District govt to distribute safety rods to bikers

LAHORE : Commissioner Lahore Division Marryam Khan has issued strict instructions to the district administration regarding ‘Safe Basant’ (Mehfooz Basant) in Lahore district.

Commissioner Lahore said that under the Kite Flying Ordinance 2025, no motorcycle without safety rods will be allowed on Lahore roads during the three-day ‘Safe Basant’. She said that motorcyclists will be required to install safety wires/rods. For a safe Basant, district government will establish 100 camps where one million safety rods will be installed on motorcycles.

Commissioner Lahore said that a timely and strict crackdown must be taken on the violation of the dates and rules of ‘Safe Basant’. She said that a three-day ‘Safe Basant’ will be held within the limits of Lahore district on February 6, 7, and 8, 2026. Kite flying was absolutely not allowed in Lahore district before February 6, 2026.

Commissioner Lahore said that the sale of kites and strings will be allowed only from February 1 to 8, kite flying material manufacturing will also be allowed only in Lahore district. All ACs must be cracked down immediately, there was no space for even zero negligence.

In a meeting held under the chairpersonship of Commissioner Lahore Division Marryam Khan regarding ‘Safe Basant’, it was said that the Kite Flying Ordinance 2025 will be strictly implemented. For a safe Basant, the Lahore Traffic Administration has proposed free rides on 23 routes.

Commissioner Lahore Marryam Khan said that online registration of kite and string manufacturers, traders, and sellers has been started on the e-Biz app. Only registered manufacturers, traders, and sellers will be allowed to do business, all registered manufacturers, traders and sellers will be required to display their certificates.

Commissioner Lahore further said that during the Safe Basant Cultural Festival, all departments will be supporting the district administration and police, and every step will be taken to protect the citizens.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Marryam Khan accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza conducted field visits to Shahdara, Barkat Town, and Ravi Town as part of the ongoing Clean and Beautiful City programme.

During the visits, the commissioner reviewed green belt improvement, street cleaning, road washing, kerb stone painting, and water sprinkling operations.

District administration officials briefed her that desilting of all drains across Lahore is underway, with tons of garbage being removed daily to maintain sanitation.

Marryam Khan emphasised that the Chief Minister’s priority is a clean and green Lahore. She said inspections of drains, manhole covers, street lights, hanging wires, and other municipal services are conducted regularly to ensure compliance with directives.

The Commissioner instructed all field teams, including the district administration and MCL staff, to remain actively engaged and maintain continuous oversight.

She reiterated that every area of Lahore would receive equal attention and that municipal services would remain a permanent feature, highlighting that a clean city is the right of its citizens.
