KOHAT: The police on Tuesday foiled a bid to smuggle weapons and ammunition, recovering a huge cache and arresting four suspects, including two women, officials said.

District Police Officer (DPO), Kohat, Shehbaz Illahi said that the police intercepted a suspicious vehicle at the Muslimabad checkpost in Jarma during routine checking. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a large quantity of arms and ammunition concealed in secret compartments, he added.

The arrested accused were identified as Zahid, Arman, Ms Z and Ms T. The DPO said the accused were involved in inter-provincial arms smuggling. The recovered weapons and ammunition include five sub-machine guns (SMGs), seven 30-bore pistols, 46 nine-millimetre pistols, 5,300 SMG rounds, 2,000 rounds of 30-bore ammunition, one M4 rifle (without magazine), 12 cleaning rods, one rifle barrel, 23 SMG magazines, 45 nine-millimetre pistol magazines and one fire silencer.
