Rawalpindi : Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Farhan Aslam chaired a high-level performance review meeting at the traffic headquarters to implement a more rigorous enforcement strategy and streamline traffic flow across the district.

During the session, which included circle, licensing, and education in-charges, the CTO issued a series of directives aimed at eliminating traffic congestion and improving public safety.

The CTO established a zero-tolerance policy toward specific violations, ordering immediate crackdowns on motorcyclists without helmets, one-way traffic violations, and vehicles with tinted windows.

He warned circle and sector in-charges that they would be held personally accountable for traffic blocks or lapses in law enforcement within their respective jurisdictions.

Additional focus was placed on penalizing overloading, seat belt neglect, and the use of non-pattern or missing number plates.

In a move to combat environmental hazards, CTO Aslam directed that smoke-emitting vehicles be impounded at police stations until owners provide a valid fitness certificate.

To further discourage illegal parking and congestion, the Traffic Education Wing was tasked with conducting daily awareness sessions for drivers at transport bases and highways.

The CTO also mandated that traffic police work alongside relevant departments to register formal cases against those responsible for encroachments that disrupt the flow of city traffic.

A new procedural change was introduced regarding traffic citations, requiring officers to check a driver’s license before issuing any challan. If a driver is found without a license, he will face a fine and be issued a mandatory driving learner permit on the spot.

CTO Aslam emphasized that strict compliance with these laws is non-negotiable for reducing accidents and ensuring an orderly traffic system throughout Rawalpindi.
