CHARSADDA: Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao on Sunday said that though Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had been ruling Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for 12
years, it failed to tackle worsening law and order, rising inflation and unemployment.
Talking to reporters here, he said that maintaining peace and stabilising the economic situation were the primary responsibilities of the chief minister. “Before staging sit-ins and visiting Punjab, the chief minister should focus on fixing the province,” he remarked.
Sherpao said the entire nation was suffering due to terrorism, but no progress had been made on the decisions taken in the provincial government’s All Parties Conference, making the outcomes ineffective. He added that the government had done nothing for provincial rights, peace, or access to justice.
Commenting on recent police actions in Punjab, Sherpao criticised the treatment of the KP chief minister and provincial ministers there as “inappropriate”. He also said that the lack of reforms in government policies was discouraging foreign investment in the country.
Sherpao welcomed recent remarks by the Afghan interior minister regarding implementation of the Doha agreement, calling them positive. He urged Afghanistan to curb cross-border movement and pressure militant groups to prevent infiltration into Pakistan. He stressed that all border crossings between Pakistan and Afghanistan should be opened to boost trade, which he said would benefit citizens of both countries.
On national issues, Sherpao endorsed the federal government’s decision to privatise Pakistan International Airlines, saying the airline had been causing an annual loss of Rs50 to Rs60 billion.
