PARACHINAR: The trader representatives on Tuesday urged the government to reopen the Afghan border at Kharlachi for trade.

They said that traders and laborers on both sides continued to suffer as the Kharlachi border crossing remained closed for the past two and a half months.According to the district administration, the Kharlachi border was closed after aggression from the Afghan side. The prolonged closure has suspended trade and movement across the border.

A trader leader Malik Sartaaj said that due to the border closure, traders and workers on both sides have been left without livelihoods, while prices of food items and other essential commodities have increased on both sides of the border. He added that fruits, dry fruits, and coal were imported from Afghanistan, while cement, livestock, and other food and daily-use items were exported from Pakistan.
