MANSEHRA/MINGORA/DIR: Hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa received rain and snowfall for the second consecutive day on Monday, making the weather colder.
Upper parts of the Hazara division continued to receive heavy rain and snowfall for the second consecutive day on Monday, causing temperatures to drop to around minus 12 degrees Celsius in high-altitude areas.
“We are vigilant to deal with the inclement weather as with the onset of snowfall, all arteries, except the Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad road, have been cleared for traffic across Balakot tehsil,” Balakot Assistant Commissioner Hasrat Khan told reporters.
The rain and snowfall, which began in the early hours of Sunday, continued intermittently in the plains and high-altitude areas of Kaghan Valley and the rest of Balakot tehsil, pushing temperatures below zero in several mountainous regions.
The official said the artery linking the MNJ road with Shogran and onward to Siri Paye had remained closed for some time due to snowfall but was later cleared and reopened for traffic.He said Rescue 1122, the Kaghan Development Authority and Tehsil Municipal Administration Balakot had been placed on high alert since the start of snowfall to deal with any untoward situation.
“Tourists are not being allowed beyond Kaghan town as the MNJ road, which connects KP with Gilgit-Baltistan, has remained closed to traffic since November following the first snowfall of the season,” he said.
High-altitude areas in the Siran and Konsh valleys of Mansehra district, as well as Kandia and Spat valleys in Kohistan, also received snowfall for the second consecutive day, intensifying the cold.
The rain, which broke a prolonged dry spell in Hazara division early Sunday, continued on Monday in Mansehra, Torghar, Lower Kohistan, Upper Kohistan and Kolai-Palas districts.Several link roads connecting remote areas of the district with the Karakoram Highway in Siran, Konsh and other high-altitude areas remained closed due to landslides and slippery conditions caused by snowfall.
MINGORA: Snowfall continued on the high mountains of Upper Swat and tourist areas including Kalam, Malam Jabba and surrounding regions.Intermittent snowfall blanketed the mountains in white, making the weather even colder.
Rainfall is also continuing in the plains of Swat. The rainfall has led to a noticeable drop in temperature, while cold winds have intensified the chill. Citizens have begun using warm clothing to protect themselves from the cold. Due to this change in weather, routine life in the upper areas has been partially affected.
Tourists, however, are enjoying the picturesque scenes of snowfall. The local administration advised tourists heading towards the upper areas to remain cautious and adopt necessary precautionary measures.
