PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority (KPFS&HFA) carried out major operations in Mardan and Haripur against substandard and unsafe food businesses, seizing and destroying large quantities of adulterated food products.

A spokesman for the Food Authority said that the food safety teams conducted inspections of several ice cream manufacturing units in Takhtbhai in Mardan. During the operation, more than 400 kilograms of substandard and unhygienic ice cream were recovered from a production unit and destroyed on the spot, he added.

“The inspection further revealed serious hygiene violations and non-compliance with food safety regulations,” he said, adding that, consequently, the unit was sealed, a heavy fine was imposed, and legal proceedings were initiated against the owners. Machinery being used in the production process was also confiscated under the provisions of the KP Food Authority Act.

In a separate operation, the Haripur Food Safety Team inspected a ketchup manufacturing facility in the Hattar Industrial Estate. During the inspection, he said, the officials found violations of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and the use of expired pulp in the production process.
