Islamabad:Academic Staff Association (ASA), Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), used to hold annual dinners sometimes at Campus, sometimes in hotels in the city. However, after faculty houses were constructed at the Campus in mid-1980s, the choice was almost shifted to the Campus.
But this time, caterers exorbitantly increased the charges citing increasing inflation and growing transport rates as reasons which forced the ASA to explore new cheaper venue. Of late, marquees have replaced hotels for wedding functions. What is harm in choosing a marquee as a venue which may remind many their happy marriage days also --- which was happening in neighbouring marquees, in abundance in the basti of Golra Sharif. So the ASA arranged its annual dinner for the faculty here at a marquee. An enthralling experience for participants.
Faculty members along with their families attended the event with zest and warmth in the cozy inside of a chilling E-11. And sumptuous food for some moments took away all the worries of the Campus including politics, regionalism and violence, increased manifold in the past few years.
The event began with acknowledgement of the contributions of faculty members and services of the faculty members who retired in the year 2024-25. Dr Zafar Nawaz Jaspal, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, was the Chief Guest in the absence of Vice-Chancellor Dr Niaz Akhtar who had his own priorities this time around.
Dr Jaspal was delighted to see the whole faculty together meaning united saying this unity is the spirit of QAU. He also administered oath to the newly elected office-bearers. Pro Mazhar Iqbal, the outgoing President of teachers’ representative body, wished the new cabinet good luck.
