Islamabad:The first winter rain swept across the federal capital and adjoining garrison city of Rawalpindi on Sunday, ending a prolonged dry spell and providing relief to residents from flu and chest infections.

The intermittent rainfall ensured cleaner air and pleasant weather and addressed common seasonal complaints like flu, chest congestion and infections and throat irritation caused by the dry spell.

While light to moderate rain slowed traffic in a few areas, life remained largely unaffected. Residents thronged public spaces to make the most of the weather change as restaurants, roadside snack points, parks, shopping malls and bazaars saw unusually heavy footfall.

Families and young people turned popular spots into lively hubs, enjoying the long-awaited winter chill. Weather officials said cooler conditions were likely to prevail in the coming days, with the possibility of more rainfall.
