KARACHI: A moderate earthquake struck areas in Karachi and Balochistan after midnight on Tuesday, causing panic among residents.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the earthquake originated at 12:51am on December 16. The quake measured 5.2 on the Richter scale and occurred at a depth of 12 kilometres. The epicentre was located in Somiai, approximately 87 kilometres northwest of Karachi, at latitude 25.52° North and longitude 66.55° East.
Residents in Karachi, Somiani, Gaddani and Winder reported feeling the tremors, prompting people to rush out of their homes as a precaution. However, no immediate reports of casualties or damage were received.
