ISLAMABAD: Former Sindh governor Imran Ismail on Sunday called the current leadership of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) “incompetent”, saying that reconciliation was the only way forward.
Speaking to a news conference here along with former PTI MNA Mahmood Maulvi, he charged that the current leadership of the party, “which is outside the jail, is incompetent as neither are they politicians nor they know politics”.
He emphasised that the party should talk about reconciliation, otherwise it will be embarrassing as all parties including the PTI have to sit at one table, put aside their disputes and move in one direction.
“Indeed, PTI is not facing normal situation rather it is passing through a very difficult political condition,” Ismail said, adding: “We will have to talk to everyone, change our attitudes, as after a long time Pakistanis are walking in the world with their heads held high.”
The former governor, however, added that although there was talk of accountability in the country, there was no actual accountability. “Faiz Hameed has been sentenced to 14 years …a method was adopted that was difficult even for the Pakistani Army,” he remarked.
Ismail further said Pakistan has now to move in one direction and added that disputes should be put aside and all parties, including PTI should sit at one table. “Those who fought for PTI for 22 years have left the party or have been sidelined,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahmood Maulvi welcomed the decision of the military court, adding institutions were damaged because of Faiz Hameed, but now all political parties should sit at one table to decide which path to take.
He regretted that corruption was rampant from top to bottom, underlining the need for elimination of the same with across the board accountability. He disputed the government’s claim that the rulers were on one page and insisted that consensus should be evolved on policies.
“We talk about democracy, but there is no democracy in any party. New administrative units should be formed across the country so that development is made and public issues are resolved under such new arrangement,” Maulvi added.
