PESHAWAR: Delays in the construction of the Peshawar Northern Bypass have emerged as a serious concern as slow progress on the project threatens efforts to ease chronic traffic congestion in the provincial capital.
The matter came to the fore after Commissioner, Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mahsud carried out an unannounced inspection of various sections of the under-construction bypass on Sunday and reviewed the pace and quality of ongoing work.
The commissioner expressed dissatisfaction over the slow progress and directed that all hurdles impeding timely completion of the project be addressed without delay, stressing that the pace of work must be accelerated to meet targets.
Commissioner Riaz Mahsud said the Northern Bypass was a critical infrastructure project for Peshawar and its early completion was essential for improving traffic flow in the city. He said the provincial government was committed to ensuring the project’s completion and was employing all available resources to that end. He said once completed, the Northern Bypass would substantially reduce traffic pressure in Peshawar by diverting vehicles travelling to and from Khyber district and Afghanistan, allowing them to avoid Ring Road, GT Road and Jamrud Road.
