The long-awaited verdict in the court-martial of the former ISI chief Lt-Gen (r) Faiz Hameed has finally been delivered. He has been sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment for engaging in political activities, violating the Official Secrets Act in ways “detrimental to the safety and interest of the state”, misuse of authority and state resources and causing wrongful loss to individuals.
It has been reported that his alleged involvement in fomenting vested political agitation in cohort with political elements and in certain other matters is being dealt with separately. These allegations presumably involve the PTI and its leadership. What is now being exposed has long been the unofficial ‘talk of the town’. Now it has been made official and, after this conviction, things ought to move at a fast pace because the country cannot remain trapped in political uncertainty.
