‘Extortionists’ among several suspects held in Qadri House raid in Nazimabad

Law enforcement agencies late on Saturday night raided the Qadri House in Nazimabad on information given by an arrested suspect. They also detained Karachi Sunni Tehreek leader Jawad Qadri and several other people.

Police officials said that the detained people were shifted to a location for investigations. They added that the arrested suspects were contact with the Samad Kathiawadi group. The detained suspects are being interrogated.

SSP Dr Imran Khan, chief the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Karachi, while talking to media, said that the Sunni Tehrikh chief Sarwat Ijaz Qadri was not detained. He added that extortionists named Jawad and Mullah Shahzeb were arrested. The suspects were wanted by the police in several cases and they used to run an extortion network.

Moreover, a suspect named Rehan, who was involved in extortion and firing in Jamshed Quarters, was arrested. On his information, several suspects, including Jawad Qadri alias Khawaja and Shahzeb Mullah, were arrested in a raid on the Qadri House, said SSP Imran Khan.

Moreover, a large number of weapons, bullets, mobile phones and gold ornaments were recovered from the suspects. The suspects also allegedly have a previous criminal record. Further investigations are underway.

The Pakistan Sunni Tehreek strongly condemned the police raid on the Qadri House, with its central spokesperson saying that “the voice of truth cannot be suppressed by the use of force”.

The cameras of the Qadri House were also broken to hide the action by the police, he said, adding that office-bearers and workers of Karachi Division were arrested during the raid.

SSP Imran Khan said that 21 accused had been arrested during the past week. He noted that five police encounters took place between SIU and the suspects and two extortionists and three other criminals were arrested in an injured condition.

He said the arrests were made during a crackdown on extortionists and their network run from abroad. He said extortion cases had been registered at Sukhun, Surjani, Tipu Sultan and Jamshed Quarter police stations.

SSP Imran Khan further said that drug peddlers were also arrested, and 9kg of hashish and heroin were recovered from them. Four members of a gang involved in street crime were arrested. He said the SIU/CIA is active around extortionists and criminals
