The Allied Health Professionals Council (AHPC) has suspended the implementation of its earlier decision to remove registration eligibility for BS graduates in Biochemistry, Microbiology and Biotechnology, following the intervention of Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal.
According to sources, a delegation of biochemists and microbiologists met the health minister on Friday and briefed him on the letter issued by the AHPC president on November 19, 2025, which had declared graduates of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Biotechnology ineligible for council registration. The minister was said to have listened to the delegation’s concerns attentively and immediately approved the suspension of the November 19 letter. A formal notification of the suspension has since been issued.
Earlier, in a letter written by AHPC Secretary Dr Ibrar Rafique, the council had clarified that registration would be granted strictly on the basis of the primary graduation degree and in only one discipline at a time. Under that directive, only graduates of Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) were deemed eligible for AHPC registration, while those holding 16-year degrees in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology or other related fields were declared ineligible.
However, following the health minister’s directions, the decision is now under review. The council will reopen consultations and engage all relevant stakeholders before finalising a revised policy.
