Three members of a family were killed and one was injured when a speeding car rammed into a parked truck on M-9 near Nagori Kanta in the Gadap City area on Friday.
According to police, the car collided with a stationary truck at high speed, resulting in the deaths of a man, his wife and their son on the spot, while another son sustained serious injuries. Motorway Police, Rescue 1122 teams and volunteers rushed to the scene and retrieved the bodies and the injured from the mangled vehicle. The casualties were initially taken to a nearby police post and later moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
The deceased were identified as 55-year-old Ashkok, son of Gan Sham; 50-year-old Sita, wife of Ashkok, and their 22-year-old son Sahil. The injured son was identified as Sanjay, 18 years old. Police said the accident occurred after the young driver fell asleep at the wheel.
The injured son reportedly told police that he had informed his father that he was feeling drowsy but was asked to continue driving as they were close to home. The family belonged to the Hindu community and hailed from Islamkot in Tharparkar. According to police, they were travelling to Karachi’s Bahadurabad area to attend a wedding.
