Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon attended a farewell dinner organized by the Special Branch at the Special Branch Complex, Keamari.
The event was attended by the additional IGs of Karachi, CTD, Operation, Welfare, and Training, the DIGs Headquarters and Special Branch, DG Safe City Authority and other officers and employees.
A short documentary based on the initiatives of IGP Memon was shown at the event. A poem and a speech were presented in his honour by OS Nadeem Qadri of the Special Branch and police officer Shumaila Shah.
The DIG Special Branch said all the Special Branch staff, including the families of the martyrs, were also present at the ceremony. “In 2006, I was introduced for the first time to the name of IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon. Working under the leadership of IG Sindh, I learned what professionalism is. IG Sindh always preferred work over merit.”
He added that health insurance, pay scale revisions, automation, task force and merit-based recruitment in the Sindh Police are notable initiatives of the IGP. He introduced modern reforms in the police. The credit for modern reforms, including welfare, goes to the IGP, he remarked.
IGP Memon said he was happy to know that the families of the martyrs were also invited to this ceremony. There is no doubt that the blood of the martyrs is involved in this atmosphere of peace and order, and the improved law and order situation in Sindh is due to the blood of the martyrs, he remarked.
He added that it was the policy of the Sindh government to introduce modern reforms in the CTD and the Special Branch, and comprehensive proposals were presented to the chief minister regarding reforms in both these institutions. It was necessary to strengthen the CTD to combat terrorism and the Special Branch for intelligence. Thanks to the Sindh government for approving these proposals, he said, adding that it is only with the kindness of the Sindh government that modern reforms were introduced in both these institutions. “This is the reward of all your hard work.”
The IGP said there is a need to upgrade human resources in the Special Branch, and suggestions will be submitted to the Sindh government soon in this regard.
Moreover, the district police did an excellent job on the information provided by the Special Branch. Various teams took effective action against around 230 stolen goods, especially scrap dealers who bought motorcycles. After these actions, the incidents of motorcycle theft decreased remarkably.
Then the Special Branch was tasked with collecting information against notorious drug dealers. Thanks to which, notorious drug dealers were arrested in the province and are still in jails, he noted.
Memon said that then the Special Branch was given the task of dealing with illegal immigrants in the province. “You not only provided information but also supported the institutions in their deportation. I succeeded in strengthening the structure of the Special Branch. The Special Branch plays an important role in the honour of Sindh Police.”
He added that the security system needs to be improved. The best security will maintain law and order. “I am grateful to the Special Branch for bidding me farewell in this wonderful way.”
