A woman and five children were injured in a gas-related explosion inside a house near Shahabuddin Market in Jacob Lines, Lines Area, on Thursday. According to reports, the powerful blast occurred due to a gas leakage. As a result, a woman and five minor children suffered severe burn injuries. They were shifted to the Burns Ward of the Civil Hospital, Karachi.
The injured were identified as 28-year-old Hamida Bibi, wife of Khudadad; 13-year-old Muhammadullah, son of Muhammad Lal; 5-year-old Shoaibullah, son of Khudadad; and Zarmina (7), Hafsa (6), and Razia (2), all daughters of Khudadad. The Brigade police said all the victims belonged to the same family.
Initial investigations revealed that the blast occurred after gas accumulated in the kitchen. The family had reportedly left the stove open overnight, and when a matchstick was lit in the morning, the gas ignited, triggering the explosion.
The blast caused extensive damage to the house,burning all clothes and shattering the door into pieces. The police said the woman and two children sustained the most severe burns. Further investigation is underway.
