PESHAWAR: The residence of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Khurram Zeeshan in Hayatabad was attacked by around two dozen armed men in the early hours of Tuesday.
In a statement posted on social media, Senator Zeeshan said the assailants opened fire inside the house, injuring a servant. He added that the attackers resorted to indiscriminate firing after the guard refused to let them enter the premises.
Police arrived shortly after the incident, but the attackers managed to flee in five vehicles.
Video footage from the scene showed multiple bullet marks on the door of a room inside the house.
Senator Khurram Zeeshan, who hails from Kohat, was not present at the Hayatabad residence at the time of the attack.
The incident drew strong condemnation from various Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government officials and political leaders.
A lawyer by profession, Khurram Zeeshan was elected to the Senate on October 30 from a general seat in the KP Assembly. He was nominated by the PTI after the disqualification of Shibli Faraz who was also the party leader in the Upper House of the Parliament.
Recently, Senator Zeeshan criticized the treatment of PTI founder Imran Khan, alleging that the incarcerated former prime minister was being held in “complete isolation,” which he described as a “clear human rights violation.”
