LAHORE: Negotiations between the Punjab government and transporters concluded successfully on Monday, leading to the immediate end of a wheel-jam strike.

According to officials, the transporters announced the withdrawal of their province-wide strike after talks with Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan. Following the meeting, the government agreed to halt the implementation of the Punjab Vehicle Ordinance 2025.

The transporters had earlier suspended operations across Lahore and other parts of Punjab in protest against heavy fines and related penalties. They had warned that the strike would continue until the government reviewed the fines, eased criminal proceedings, and withdrew the traffic ordinance.

However, in a separate statement on social media, Marriyum Aurangzeb rejected reports that the government had suspended enforcement of the ordinance. She termed such claims “false speculation,” stating that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had once again ordered strict and effective implementation of traffic laws across Punjab. Aurangzeb said the administration had been instructed to take firm action against violators and that there would be no compromise on public safety. She added that the chief minister’s directives must be fully achieved and that an awareness campaign regarding traffic rules would be intensified.
