KARACHI: Army and WAPDA have qualified for the men’s netball final in the 35th National Games. The gold medal match in the women’s competition will be played between WAPDA and Sindh teams.
The final and third-place matches will be played Sunday (today).
At PSB Coaching Center, WAPDA defeated Azad Jammu and Kashmir 34-10 in the first semi-final of women’s netball and Sindh defeated Pakistan Army 21-32 in the second semi-final.
The third-place match will be played between Pakistan Army and Azad Jammu and Kashmir teams. In the first semi-final of the men’s tournament, Army defeated Police 40-23 and Navy defeated WAPDA 22-24 to confirm their place in the title match. The third-place match of the men’s tournament will be played between WAPDA and Police.
On the first day of the women’s hockey event of the National Games, Punjab defeated Sindh 6-1. Punjab’s center forward Sharqa completed her hat-trick by scoring goals in the seventh, 38th and 49th minutes, while Laraib Abid, Laiba Yasmin and Maleeha Younis scored in the 11th, 24th and 44th minutes, respectively. Maheen Ali scored the only goal for Sindh.
The match between WAPDA and Balochistan will be played on Sunday.
Eight teams are participating in the men’s event, which are divided into two pools. Pool A comprises WAPDA, KPK, Pakistan Air Force and Sindh, while Pool B consists of Army, Navy, Police and Punjab.
Women’s football event begin, Army score 23 goals against KP
On the second day of the National Games football event, two more matches were decided and another ended in a draw.
In the first match, Army defeated Sindh 1-0 after a tough competition, while in the second match, Navy defeated Police by two goals to one. In the third match at the KMC Football Stadium, a thrilling contest was witnessed between Balochistan and Wapda, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
Women’s matches also began at the Kakri Ground Football Stadium, where two matches were played on the first day. Army defeated KP by 23 goals. The second match witnessed a tough fight between Sindh and Wapda and ended in a 1-1 draw.
The opening match of the men’s hockey competition was played between the Army and Punjab teams. The match ended in a 0-0 draw. The chief guest of the opening match ceremony was Member of the National Assembly and President of Sindh Hockey Association Women’s Wing Shehla Raza.
On this occasion, the special guest hit the ball and formally inaugurated the hockey competition for the 35th National Games.
