The blast at the National University of Modern Languages, Islamabad because of a gas leak is a sad reminder that we still do not treat safety with importance. Many were injured and at least one person has died. This should never happen in a place meant for learning. Such accidents usually happen when small problems are ignored for too long.
Universities and other institutions must check their gas lines, buildings and safety systems regularly. This incident should wake us up. We need better care, better checks and better planning so students feel safe in their classrooms. No one should get hurt because of avoidable negligence.
