PESHAWAR: The defence counsel on Monday filed an application seeking cancellation of the power of attorney (Wakalatnama) submitted by a private lawyer engaged by the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) in a case pertaining to the attack on the facility.
The application was filed by the accused’s lawyer, Advocate Ali Zaman. The petition stated that a private lawyer had submitted Wakalatnama on behalf of the PBC, whereas government institutions were not permitted to hire private counsel when official government lawyers are already available.

Following the incident, a case was registered against the accused and trial proceedings began. PTI lawmakers Meena Khan, Fazal Elahi and Asif Khan, along with several workers, were nominated in the case.
A private lawyer representing the complainant had filed the Wakalatnama and also submitted an application seeking forensic analysis of video footage by the Punjab Forensic Science Agency to identify the actual culprits involved in the incident. The court adjourned the hearing on both applications till December 11.
