ISLAMABAD: Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that the 58th Foundation Day of PPP is not merely the anniversary of a political party but also the celebration of a people’s movement born from the struggle for democracy, dignity, and social justice. “From Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s historic call for empowering the people to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s unwavering fight for democracy, the PPP has always stood as a shield for the rights of the oppressed. Our party’s journey is written with the sacrifices of our martyrs and strengthened by the resilience of our workers,” he said on the eve of the 58th Foundation Day of the PPP. The chairman said that under the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistan witnessed the restoration of the Constitution, the historic 18th Amendment, provincial autonomy, and unprecedented steps for reconciliation and democratic continuity. He reaffirmed that the PPP will continue to speak for the poor, the marginalised, farmers, labourers, women, and minorities. “Our ideology is rooted in service to the people. As long as inequality, injustice, and poverty exist, the PPP’s struggle will continue,” he said. In his message, President Asif Ali Zardari paid tributes to Founder Chairman PPP, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, and to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, whose vision, courage, and sacrifices strengthened Pakistan’s democratic foundations and inspired generations.

“Throughout its history, the PPP has risen to meet the central challenges of its time. When Pakistan faced authoritarian rule, the PPP stood firm as the party of democratic resistance and led the struggle for the restoration of people’s rights,” President Zardari said.

He said the PPP also takes pride in its role in strengthening the federation, initiating reforms in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, laying the foundations of the country’s nuclear programme, and advancing landmark reforms in land rights, labour protections, education and social justice. The president said that from the MRD and ARD movements to the Charter of Democracy, the 18th Amendment and the National Action Plan, the PPP has remained central to Pakistan’s democratic evolution.

On Saturday, the PPP marked its 58th Foundation Day with a central ceremony addressed by the party’s Vice President and Parliamentary Leader of the PPP in the Senate, Senator Sherry Rehman, and Secretary General PPP Parliamentarians Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari at the PPP’s Central Secretariat.

Reiterating PPP’s steadfast dedication to democracy, justice, and the empowerment of the people of Pakistan, Senator Sherry Rehman, said this Foundation Day signifies not only the founding of the PPP but also the beginning of a historic struggle for democratic restoration and the protection of the rights of every citizen. She highlighted that the PPP delivered the 1973 Constitution, laid the foundations of the nuclear programme, carried out landmark agricultural reforms, established an independent foreign policy, pioneered missile technology, launched the Benazir Income Support Programme, and contributed significantly to CPEC. She paid rich tribute to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto for preserving and advancing her father’s mission and strengthening democratic pillars.

Sherry Rehman noted that under Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s leadership, the PPP remains a symbol of hope and progress, committed to a peaceful, progressive, and prosperous Pakistan.

Secretary General PPP Parliamentarians Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari stated that the PPP is the only force capable of resolving the country’s challenges, adding that the nation now looks to Chairman Bilawal for leadership and that President Asif Ali Zardari’s vision restored the Constitution to its original form.
