ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is moving towards a major breakthrough in meat exports, setting an ambitious target of USD 200 million for shipments to Malaysia.

The roadmap was finalised in a high-level meeting of the Prime Minister’s Committee on Meat Exports, co-chaired by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan and Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan. The session brought together public and private sector stakeholders to review challenges and outline strategies for boosting meat exports. A collaborative business model with private exporters is being developed to streamline shipments and enhance competitiveness.

Minister Jam Kamal Khan emphasized the urgency of upgrading grazing areas, establishing FMD vaccine laboratories and introducing targeted incentives for exporters. He called these measures “essential and time-critical” for tapping into the Malaysian market. SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan said the comprehensive export strategy is being crafted on the prime minister’s directives. “Our draft export plan has been prepared after extensive consultations with all stakeholders,” he said, adding that incentives will be crucial for expanding buffalo meat exports.
