PESHAWAR: Additional District and Sessions Judge of Peshawar, Mirza Muhammad Kashif, on Tuesday sentenced a police official to one year in prison and imposed a fine of Rs50,000 for misuse of authority and disobedience of court orders.

According to the court verdict, the accused in a narcotics case, Sardar Khan and Lal Zaman, were acquitted during the trial, while SHO Javed Marwat was found guilty of forgery. The judgment stated that Chamakni Police’s Station House Officer Javed Marwat had fabricated a false recovery of narcotics and abused his authority by falsely implicating the accused in a fake case.

The court had earlier issued a show-cause notice to the SHO under Section 32 of the Control of Narcotic Substances Act, 2019, seeking an explanation. However, despite receiving the notice, he neither appeared before the court nor submitted a written reply. The judge observed that the officer had willfully failed to comply with court proceedings. Consequently, under Section 32 of the said act, the court awarded him one year of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs50,000.

In case of non-payment of the fine, he will serve an additional one month in jail. The court directed the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar to immediately arrest SHO Javed Marwat and shift him to Peshawar Central Jail, and to submit a compliance report within 15 days.
