KARACHI: A police party from Sindh, deputed under orders of the Sindh High Court to recover a woman from Muzaffargarh, Punjab, was booked and detained on murder charge by Multan police.
Sindh police sources told The News the party was intercepted in Multan on Wednesday evening by opponents of the woman’s family, triggering a violent clash that left one person dead. The deceased’s heirs lodged a murder case against the Sindh police team and others.
According to official sources, the girl was recovered at around 4pm on Tuesday from Khangarh, district Muzaffargarh. The operation was carried out after completing all legal formalities, including approval from the Punjab Home Department. The District Police Officer (DPO) of Muzaffargarh was also informed, while Additional Inspector General (AIG) Operations Sindh, Zubair Nazeer Shaikh, was taken on board.
After securing formal permission, the Sindh police team, accompanied by the recovered girl and including a lady constable, departed from Muzaffargarh around 7pm en route to Multan. As the police party reached the limits of PS Muzaffarabad, Multan, they were allegedly intercepted by members of the opposing party who attempted to snatch the woman from police. A confrontation ensued during which a person was killed. Sindh police officials maintained that the death occurred due to a road accident, while the deceased’s heirs alleged that he was shot dead by the Sindh police party.
Despite the claim that the operation was conducted strictly under legal sanction, the Punjab police have apprehended the Sindh police party, including the female constable, and registered a case against them under murder and other relevant sections of law.
This reporter approached CPO Multan Sadiq Dogar for official version on this issue, called at his cell number and then sent him a detailed message, but till the filling of this news story, he did not respond.
As per a senior officer of the Sindh police, the police party comprised Sub-Inspector Ghulam Hyder, ASI Ghulam Rasool, Constable Zeeshan and a lady constable Bobby Seema, who have been detained by Punjab police. The same officer told The News that Punjab Police has assured the officers of the Sindh Police that after verification of the facts, Sindh Police’s party will be freed.
However a FIR 2599/25 under Section of murder has been registered against Sindh Police party under sections of murder and others, the officer concluded.
