KARACHI: A case has been registered against Mirpurkhas Mayor, Municipal Commissioner, SHO, police personnel and 10 private persons on the order of the Sindh High Court’s Mirpurkhas circuit bench for alleged extortion, attempted murder, theft, and abuse of authority.
The SHC Circuit Bench in Mirpurkhas directed the registration of FIR against Mirpurkhas Mayor Abdul Rauf Ghori, Municipal Commissioner Aneesur Rehman Sial, and SHO Town Police Station Kamran Halipoto.
According to official documents and contents of the FIR, they have been accused of unlawfully sealing a licensed petrol pump owned by local businessman Raja Ishtiaq, allegedly acting on the mayor’s instructions. The municipal authorities on October 26th 2024 sealed the petrol pump. The complainant alleged it was shut down after he refused to pay Rs10 million bribe to municipal officials. According to the FIR, municipal and police staff, assisted by private individuals, damaged the property and stole 5,000 litres of petrol along with other valuables, which were later sold. The FIR was registered for charges including extortion, criminal intimidation, attempted murder, theft, and mischief causing damage to property.
Earlier, the First Additional District and Sessions Court dismissed the plea for the registration of the case. However, the complainant pursued the matter before the Sindh High Court. After examining evidence, documents, and witness accounts, the Court directed the police to register an FIR against the accused municipal and police officials. Initially the police did not comply with the High Court’s order, forcing the complainant filed a contempt of court plea. The High Court subsequently summoned SSP Mirpurkhas Sumair Noor Channa, who assured the court that the case would be registered. Following this, the case was officially registered at Town Police Station in Mirpurkhas. Besides the Mayor, the FIR was registered against Municipal Commissioner Aneesur Rehman Sial, SHO Kamran Halipoto, along with several other municipal employees and private accomplices.
