GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Police on Monday barred its personnel from using TikTok while in uniform, citing the need to maintain institutional discipline and public confidence.

According to a notification issued by Inspector General of Police, all district police officers and unit heads have been directed to enforce the ban, with violations attracting disciplinary action under the Police Conduct Rules.

Government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq confirmed the development, saying, “GB Police will no longer be allowed to use TikTok. A notification has been issued, and the use of TikTok while wearing the police uniform is strictly prohibited.”

The move mirrors earlier measures in Islamabad and Punjab, where officers faced suspension over TikTok videos posted in the uniform. Officials maintained the restriction was not aimed at curbing personal freedom but at preserving the dignity and credibility of the force.

Civil society and digital rights groups expressed mixed reactions, with some terming the step necessary for professionalism, while others voiced concerns over limits on digital expression.
