LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s labour-friendly initiatives have begun to take practical shape as the allotment of flats for industrial workers has formally started.
On her directions, applications are being invited for free-of-cost housing units in the Workers Welfare Complex, Sundar Industrial Estate Kasur (Phase-I), where 750 flats will be allotted. A three per cent quota has been reserved for widows of deceased industrial workers, while two per cent has been set aside for disabled workers.
In the first phase, applications are open for workers from Lahore and Kasur districts. As per the CM’s orders, two-thirds of the quota has been allocated for Kasur workers and one-third for Lahore workers.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said, “Industrial workers of Lahore and Kasur can now download application forms from home via the official websites. Forms are also available free of cost at the offices of Director Labour Welfare (North) and Deputy Director Labour Welfare (South).” She added that September 8 has been fixed as the last date for submission of applications.
Workers can apply online at [www.pwwf.punjab.gov.pk], (http://www.pwwf.punjab.gov.pk) and [www.labour.punjab.gov.pk], (http://www.labour.punjab.gov.pk), or seek assistance via helplines 049-2724261, 0331-4436944, and 042-99260240.
Separately, CM Maryam Nawaz praised the theme of World Expo 2025 — “Designing Future Society for Our Lives” — during her meeting with Expo Association General Manager Achinoki Manatsu, who briefed her on preparations.
Maryam Nawaz highlighted Punjab’s cultural and economic strengths, showcasing handicrafts like Ajrak and Blue Pottery, as well as the province’s natural resources. “Punjab’s skilled craftsmen are transforming these treasures into unique models. The arrival of 1.2 million visitors to Pakistan’s pavilion reflects the global interest in our products,” she said.
High officials of the Expo Association welcomed the Chief Minister’s interest, while Manatsu thanked her for visiting the Expo and appreciating its objectives of saving lives, improving public facilities and addressing social challenges.
