BHIT SHAH: Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, paying tribute to the great Sufi saint and poet Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai (RA), said the saint’s timeless teachings continue to inspire not only the people of Sindh but the entire nation in overcoming even the most daunting challenges.
Referring to India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, Bilawal said Pakistan has the strength to confront any Indian aggression and reclaim the six rivers, warning that any threat to the Indus system will be met with firm resistance from all provinces.
According to a press release issued by the Media Cell, Bilawal House, the PPP chairman was addressing the concluding ceremony of the annual three-day Urs of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. He said it was a matter of pride that during the recent Pakistan–India war, every Pakistani fulfilled their duty with courage and unity.
He emphasised that although Pakistan did not initiate the conflict, it was the nation that brought it to a decisive conclusion. “The entire country stood united, responding on every front with steadfast solidarity. Above all, the historic role of our armed forces — particularly our air force — will be remembered for generations,” he remarked.
Bilawal said that during the war, all political parties and factions set aside their differences to defend the motherland. He recalled that after its defeat, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty — a move he described as the most serious assault on the river in history. He noted that whenever the Indus has come under threat, the people of Sindh have always played a leading role. The river, he said, is not only Pakistan’s primary water source but is also deeply tied to the Indus civilisation. “Modi’s attack on the Indus is an attack on our civilisation, our history, and our culture,” he stated.
The PPP chairman called for public support to safeguard the Indus. “We must unite to raise our voices and resist Modi’s brutality and intentions, so we can put an end to this injustice,” he urged. He added that Pakistan always advocates peace but will not back down if forced into war. “If war is waged, then from the land of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai we will send a message to the Modi government: we do not retreat, we do not bow down — and if you dare attack the Indus, the people of every province will confront you.”
Highlighting his diplomatic efforts, Bilawal said he had presented Pakistan’s stance on the Indus River to various countries, including the US and European nations. “When this dispute began, I stood on the banks of the river and pledged to the people that I would expose Modi before the world — and I can say we have done exactly that.” He added that India’s propaganda against Pakistan, based on lies, was strongly rebutted, and Pakistan’s voice was raised internationally against the threat to cut off water supplies to 200 million citizens.
