After Brigadier Waseem Akhtar, the top-scoring candidate for the appointment of chairman to one of the eight educational boards of Sindh, withdrew his name, a new summary has been sent to the chief minister. In the initial summary, Waseem Akhtar was recommended for appointment as chairman of the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi.
In the new summary, retired bureaucrat Muhammad Misbah Tunio has been recommended for appointment as chairman of the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi, while Ghulam Hussain Sahu, the brother of a provincial secretary, has been suggested as chairman of the Matriculation Board Karachi.
District Education Officer Central Musharraf Ali Rajput has been recommended for appointment as chairman of the Sindh Board of Technical Education. For the Hyderabad Educational Board, retired professor of Sindh University Dr. Rafiq Ahmed Chandio has been proposed, while for the Nawabshah Educational Board, the name of Dr Asif Ali Memon, a professor at Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, has been suggested.
For the Mirpurkhas Educational Board, retired provincial additional secretary Mansoor Rajput has been recommended. For the Sukkur Educational Board, the name of Zahid Hussain Channar, a professor at Sindh Madressatul Islam University, has been proposed. Meanwhile, for the Larkana Board, Khalid Hussain Mahar, Director Academics at Sindh Higher Education Commission, has been proposed.
Interestingly, none of the nominated candidates have any prior experience in educational boards, despite over 230 candidates being interviewed, including current and former board officials. According to sources, one of the nominated chairmen has been accused of facilitating an MBA degree for a member of the search committee without attendance. Similarly, two senior officials of the Sindh Higher Education Commission, who are also members of the search committee, selected their own director academics as a board chairman. However, Director General Higher Education Commission Nauman Ahsan maintained neutrality and, due to a conflict of interest, refrained from participating in the search committee’s interviews.
