President Asif Ali Zardari has ordered the constitution of a high-level inquiry committee to investigate alleged administrative and financial irregularities in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation, officials said.
According to an office order issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the committee has been formed in light of President’s Secretariat Islamabad notification dated June 24, 2026. It will probe the alleged irregularities attributed to the incumbent coordinator general of the standing committee.
The chancellor of Federal Ziauddin University, Islamabad, Dr Asim Hussain, has been appointed convener of the inquiry committee, the order stated. The committee will also include the secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology as a member.
The chairman of the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR), Dr Syed Hussain Abidi, and chief finance and accounts officer of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Muhammad Saeedullah Yousafzai, have been nominated as members.
The order said the inquiry panel would submit its report and recommendations to the President of Pakistan, who also serves as chairman of the standing committee, for approval and further action.
It added that secretarial support to the inquiry committee would be provided by the International Liaison, IL Wing, of the Ministry of Science and Technology. The order was issued with the approval of the committee’s convener.
