LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly on Tuesday decided to send the controversial Punjab Control of Habitual Offenders Bill 2026 back for reconsideration following objections raised by opposition lawmakers, civil society groups and concerns highlighted on social media.

The Assembly session, chaired by Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, began over two hours behind schedule.

Addressing the House, the Speaker said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had directed that the bill be reviewed in light of the concerns expressed by various stakeholders.
