Punjab’s biggest kabaddi showdown begins on June 29

LAHORE: The Sports Board Punjab has announced the “CM Punjab Kabaddi Championship 2026”, the province’s biggest kabaddi showdown of the year. Featuring top-tier athletes from across the region, the high-octane tournament is scheduled to take place from June 29 to July 1.

The SBP has started its promotion in media as well as launching posters prominently features Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and the provincial sports leadership, highlighting the government’s commitment to reviving and promoting traditional sports at the grassroots and provincial levels.

Tournament scheduled for June 29, to July 01, 2026 will be held at the Punjab Stadium, Lahore carrying a Grand Prize Pool of PKR 5 Lakhs (500,000 Rupees).

The championship is designed to be a fast-paced, action-packed three-day event bringing Punjab’s best kabaddi talent into a single arena. The tournament will officially commence with an opening ceremony celebrating the traditional roots of the sport. Whereas, the final matches, followed by the closing and prize distribution ceremony, will be held on July 01, 2026.

“The official slogan for the championship, “Come and be a part of the thrilling competitions of Punjab’s traditional sport!”, ia an ongoing effort by the provincial administration to re-engage youth with cultural athletics,” stated a SBP official who further added that a substantial cash prize is on the line and the state-of-the-art Punjab Stadium as the battleground, so the tournament is expected to draw massive crowds of sports enthusiasts and families alike.
