ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s parliamentary party on Wednesday suspended membership of Iqbal Khan Afridi MNA over his alleged misconduct with another party lawmaker Sahibzada Sibghatullah a day earlier.

According to a party spokesperson, a special meeting of the PTI parliamentary party, chaired by Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, reviewed the matters related to parliamentary affairs and party discipline.

On this particular issue, involving Afridi and Sibghatullah, the parliamentary party passed a unanimous resolution suspending Iqbal Afridi’s membership of the parliamentary party. The forum also demanded that he should be expelled from the party.

The meeting considered the unfortunate incident that occurred when the MNAs visited Adiala Jail to meet the Imran Khan on Tuesday. The parliamentary party strongly condemned the inappropriate behavior and misbehavior of Iqbal Afridi towards Sahibzada Sibghatullah MNA.

The meeting pointed out that complaints of inappropriate behavior by Iqbal Afridi towards various members had come to light in the past as well.

The meeting reiterated the commitment that the PTI expects all its members to uphold parliamentary traditions, discipline and mutual respect and that no conduct contrary to the dignity, unity and democratic values of the party could be permitted.

n view of the demand by members for termination of his party membership, the meeting decided that a show cause notice be issued to Afridi as per the laid down procedure.

Afridi was elected from NA 27, Khyber, and Sibghatullah from NA 5, Upper Dir in the February 8 general elections.
