Pakistan, Iran commit to strengthen security ties

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Iran have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing cooperation in security and regional stability during a high-level ministerial meeting here on Wednesday.

The discussions, held between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Iranian counterpart Eskandar Momeni, focused extensively on bilateral relations and the evolving regional situation following the recently concluded peace agreement.

According to an official statement, Dr. Momeni conveyed the gratitude of the Iranian president and the visiting delegation for the warm welcome extended by Pakistan. Both sides expressed satisfaction over the recent de-escalation of tensions in the region.

Naqvi congratulated Dr. Momeni on the joint declaration signed in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, noting that the agreement was a direct result of the sincere efforts of Iranian government and Momeni himself. Naqvi reiterated that Pakistan had consistently advocated global peace and stability, pledging that Islamabad will maintain its efforts toward securing lasting peace in the Middle East. He added that the peace agreement was expected to yield far-reaching, positive consequences for the wider region. The two ministers agreed to expand bilateral cooperation across several key fields, including security, counterterrorism, cybersecurity, and immigration. To advance these initiatives between their respective interior ministries, Dr. Momeni announced that he will soon undertake a comprehensive official visit to Pakistan. The Iranian minister also appreciated Pakistan for facilitating negotiations between Iran and the United States, while commending the ongoing support extended by the Pakistani people.
