LAHORE : The Agriculture Department, Punjab has reaffirmed its commitment to maximize cotton output and ensure farmers receive full support during the current crop cycle.
The resolve was expressed by Secretary Agriculture Punjab Iftikhar Ali Sahoo while chairing an important meeting on the cotton crop situation at Agriculture House, on Saturday. He said field reports confirm the cotton crop in Punjab is in excellent condition. He stated that “all possible resources and means are being utilised to ensure cotton production exceeds the set target.”
To achieve this, the Department will strengthen coordination with Irrigation Department to ensure water availability as per crop requirements. He added that region-specific advisories based on growth stages and local conditions should be issued to guide farmers on cotton management.
Secretary also stressed monitoring of input markets to ensure fertilizer availability at government-notified prices and take indiscriminate action against adulteration in agricultural pesticides.
He directed field formations to use their best professional capabilities and remain engaged with farmers at the grassroots level. The Agriculture Department views a strong cotton crop as critical for Punjab’s rural economy and is taking all necessary measures to protect crop health and farmer interests.
