ISLAMABAD: The PTI-backed opposition legislators in the National Assembly on Friday submitted 654 cut motions against the demands for grants of six key federal ministries. The cut motions were submitted for six key ministries include the Ministry of Finance and Revenue, Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control, Ministry of National Food Security and Research, Cabinet Secretariat, Ministry of Energy (Power and Petroleum Division) and Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety.
The Ministry of National Food Security and Research faces the highest number of cut motions at 139, followed by Finance and Revenue (137), Interior and Narcotics Control (128), Cabinet Secretariat (112), Ministry of Energy (86) and Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety (52). Under the parliamentary procedure, the cut motions provide the opposition lawmakers with an opportunity to challenge the government’s spending proposals before the National Assembly votes on the demands for grants.
