Police on Thursday registered a case over the alleged short-term kidnapping of a crypto trader from the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area after he claimed that armed men abducted him, assaulted him and gained access to his online accounts.
A case was registered at the Gulshan-e-Jauhar Police Station on the complaint of the victim, Jan Sher Khan alias JS Rao, following the incident that allegedly occurred between Blocks 14 and 15 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar. CCTV footage of the incident had also surfaced.
The footage reportedly showed the victim riding a motorcycle while being followed by suspects in a black vehicle. The suspects allegedly intercepted the motorcycle, prompting the trader to abandon it and attempt to flee.
Three men in plain clothes then got out of the vehicle, chased him, overpowered him and forced him into the car after allegedly assaulting him. In his statement to the police, Khan said he worked as a freelancer. He stated that on the night of June 16, a friend dropped him near Munawar Chowrangi, where his motorcycle was parked. After getting on his motorcycle and heading home, a vehicle allegedly struck him at around 2:30 am.
He claimed that four armed men forced him into their vehicle and took him to an undisclosed location. According to the complainant, the suspects accessed and transferred data from his online accounts, obtained passwords and fingerprints, and tampered with various digital accounts.
The trader told the police that before dawn he was driven around again and later abandoned at an unknown location while blindfolded. After removing the blindfold and asking locals for directions, he learned that he was in the Bin Qasim area. He subsequently booked an online ride and returned home. The complainant further alleged that the suspects demanded dollars from his friends in his name and also took away his iPhone 16 Pro Max.
In the FIR, the victim alleged that four unidentified armed men kidnapped him, subjected him to violence and unlawfully gained access to his online accounts, transferring funds and data. He requested legal action against those responsible.
Police officials confirmed that a case had been registered and said efforts were under way to obtain additional CCTV footage from the area where the alleged abduction took place. Investigators hope the footage would help identify the suspects and the vehicle involved. The police said the incident was being investigated from multiple angles.
