This letter refers to the editorial ‘Sweltering heat’ (June 16, 2026). There is no doubt that the extreme heat during summer is often linked to global warming and changing weather patterns. But one has to acknowledge the country is not doing much to fight this natural phenomenon. Rather, we are actively contributing to it. Take the example of any Pakistani city and one can see unchecked urban sprawl with scant consideration to environment and greenery.
Just look at the state that Islamabad has been driven into. It has gone from a city with huge green cover to a city where one has very few green areas left. And even these are also on the hit list of many developers.
