ISLAMABAD: Aleema Khan, sister of incarcerated founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan, has announced a strong gathering of 10,000 people outside the Adiala jail on June 16 (Tuesday) in order to create pressure to end her brother’s prolonged isolation.
“PTI leadership has requested opposition leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai that if there is a timeframe on the gathering outside Adiala jail on Tuesday, they can mobilise 10,000 people. We welcome this proposal and have accepted their request,” she wrote on her social media account.
“On Tuesday, 16 June, we will gather outside Adiala jail from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A strong gathering of 10,000 people outside Adiala should create the necessary pressure to end Imran Khan’s prolonged isolation and ensure that his eye condition is properly examined and treated at Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad, in the presence of his family and personal physician,” she said.
Aleema contended that this was a humanitarian and legal demand. “The basic rights of a former prime minister and political prisoner must be respected.”
When contacted, PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram said that Aleema Khan and opposition leader Achakzai had a meeting very recently. He explained that afterwards the opposition leader also briefed the parliamentary party meeting about this matter.
