On the directives of Sindh Minister for Food Makhdoom Mehboobuz Zaman, the Sindh Food Authority (SFA) conducted a major operation in Bhains Colony and sealed an illegal factory involved in the production of substandard and hazardous oil and ghee from the bones and fat of dead animals.
During the raid, a large quantity of animal fat, raw material, prepared oil and ghee, machinery, and other equipment was seized, while the suspects present at the site were arrested and legal proceedings were initiated against them.
According to the Sindh Food Authority, the operation was carried out on the basis of confidential information.
Initial findings revealed that the unit was processing the remains of dead animals to manufacture oil and ghee, which were allegedly being supplied to the market through various channels, posing a serious threat to public health.
Officials stated that the factory was operating under highly unhygienic conditions and in complete violation of food safety standards.
Taking notice of the matter, Sindh Minister for Food Makhdoom Mehboob Uz Zaman directed the authorities concerned to take strict legal action against those involved. He said that oil and ghee produced from the fat of dead animals are extremely harmful to human health and that such elements are endangering the lives of citizens for financial gain.
He reiterated that no leniency would be shown to those involved in the production and sale of hazardous food products.
The minister further stated that the Sindh Food Authority has been directed to intensify its crackdown against substandard, unsafe, and illegal food units across the province.
He emphasized that public health remains the top priority of the Sindh Government and that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the availability of safe and quality food for consumers.
He further stated that an FIR bearing No. 356/2026 has been registered at Sukhan Police Station on the complaint of the Sindh Food Authority, while further investigations are underway to identify and arrest other individuals linked to the illegal operation. Samples collected during the raid have been sent for laboratory analysis, and the seized material has been taken into custody for further legal proceedings.
Makhdoom Zaman reaffirmed that the ongoing crackdown against substandard and hazardous food products will continue across Sindh and warned that those involved in activities jeopardizing public health will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
