Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi on Saturday addressed as the chief guest the laptop distribution ceremony for students of the Karachi Metropolitan University under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme.

He said he wanted to speak to those young people who dreamed, nurtured aspirations and continuously strived to build a brighter future for themselves. He added that the medical profession was a noble field that extended beyond treatment of diseases and served as a means of guiding society and serving humanity. He emphasised that doctors should promote social awareness and the spirit of public service alongside their professional responsibilities.

The Prime Minister’s Youth Programme was not limited to slogans as it was providing practical guidance, opportunities and pathways for the advancement of young people, Hashmi said.

He noted that the global demand for skilled and trained professionals continued to grow and the Pakistani youth had the potential to achieve distinction at the international level through their talent and abilities.

The present era was defined by technology with modern machinery and digital systems rapidly transforming various sectors, including health care, the governor remarked.

He stressed that quality health care and professional growth could not be achieved without adapting to modern technology.

The governor urged the students to continue pursuing higher education, embrace research and innovation and maintain a lifelong connection with their alma mater.

He said that becoming a doctor should not merely be a means of financial success but a commitment to serving humanity and improving society.

He further stated that promoting quality, accountability and performance within educational institutions was essential, and that institutions should remain focused on education, research and national development free from political influence.

Hashmi said Islam was a complete code of life that guaranteed legitimate rights to all segments of society, including men, women, children and employees, while promoting the principles of justice, knowledge and service.

Earlier, Sindh Coordinator of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme Dr Fahad Shafiq said 20,000 laptops had been distributed among students of various universities so far this year under the youth programme, and the distribution process was being carried out strictly on merit.

He informed the audience that a total of 100,000 laptops would be distributed among high-achieving students of public sector universities, adding that there were plans to increase this number to 200,000 next year.

Dr Shafiq further stated that students were also being provided access to low-markup financing facilities for obtaining laptops worth up to Rs 400,000, enabling them to become part of the digital economy.

He said digital laboratories and incubators were being established at various universities to create entrepreneurial opportunities for young people, while financial support of up to Rs20 million would be available for startups.

He added that the Digital Youth Hub was facilitating access to opportunities in entrepreneurship, education and employment while financing facilities of up to Rs20 million were also available for the establishment of clinics and hospitals.

Dr Shafiq stated that support was also being extended to the sports sector under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, while various scholarship opportunities were being made available to young people through the Digital Youth Hub.

On the occasion, Karachi Metropolitan University Vice Chancellor Dr Waseem Qazi briefed the participants on the university’s modern facilities and academic environment. He said that providing quality education and a contemporary learning environment remained the institution’s foremost priority.

He stated that work on modern academic and infrastructural initiatives at the Karachi Metropolitan University was progressing rapidly to provide students with educational opportunities in line with international standards.

Dr Qazi added that special measures were being taken to enhance students’ professional and practical capabilities so that they could perform more effectively in their respective fields. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to utilising all available resources to improve academic standards, promote research and strengthen students’ skills.
