Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi on Saturday stated that environmental protection had become one of the most pressing needs of the present time and that collective awareness, coordinated strategies, and practical measures were essential to address the growing impacts of climate change.
He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony at the Governor House as the chief guest to mark the recently observed World Environment Day. The event was attended by representatives from various sectors, environmental experts, social workers, students, and other distinguished guests.
The governor said that Pakistan was among the countries significantly affected by climate change. Therefore, adopting an environmentally responsible lifestyle and promoting the sustainable use of natural resources had become increasingly important.
He emphasised that environmental degradation was not merely an ecological concern but also a challenge directly linked to public health, agriculture, and economic development.
Hashmi stressed the need for collective efforts to curb excessive plastic consumption, prevent water wastage, and stop the indiscriminate cutting of trees in order to ensure a clean, safe, and healthy environment for future generations. He further remarked that tree plantation was not just a campaign but a guarantee of a secure future.
Reaffirming the Governor House’s commitment to environmental sustainability, he said that all positive initiatives aimed at reducing pollution, promoting afforestation, and contributing to a greener Sindh would continue to receive full support.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the governor planted a sapling at the Governor House to formally launch the tree plantation drive. He urged every citizen to plant at least one tree for a greener, cleaner, and safer future, adding that environmental protection was a shared national responsibility.
