A robbery attempt near the area behind Al-Mustafa Hospital in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 13C, close to a former utility store within the jurisdiction of Aziz Bhatti police, ended in a fatal exchange when a citizen resisted the robbers. One suspect was killed on the spot while another managed to escape from the scene, police confirmed.
According to police officials, the incident took place when Shahid Hussain, a customs clearing agent, was leaving his residence in his car for work. As he reached the vicinity, he was intercepted by two armed men riding a motorcycle. The suspects allegedly stopped him at gunpoint, took cash and other belongings, and then attempted to flee the area immediately after the robbery.
At that moment, Shahid Hussain reportedly pulled out his licensed pistol and responded with gunfire. SHO Aziz Bhatti Inspector Ansar Butt stated that the sudden counterattack resulted in one of the attackers being critically injured, leading to his death at the scene, while his accomplice took advantage of the situation and fled.
The body of the deceased suspect was shifted to Jinnah Hospital for legal and medical formalities. During the search operation, law enforcement officials recovered a pistol with live ammunition, a mobile phone, and cash from his possession. However, no immediate identification documents were found at the scene. His identity was later confirmed through investigative and verification methods as 32-year-old Ashraf, who was also found to have a prior criminal background.
Police records indicated that he had links to two addresses, one in Gulistan-e-Johar Hussain Hazar Goth and another in Sachal Safora Goth.
