LAHORE:Punjab University Academic Staff Association (PU-ASA) and Federation of All-Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) Secretary Prof Dr Kamran Abid has strongly condemned the government’s continued neglect of the higher education sector in the federal budget.
In a post federal budget press statement, he said that while countries around the world are investing heavily in universities, research and innovation, Pakistan has chosen to reduce allocations for higher education, a move he termed short-sighted and damaging for academic, scientific, technological, and economic progress.
Dr Abid emphasised that instead of moving towards the internationally recognised target of allocating at least 4% of GDP to education, the government has opted for meager funding that fails to meet even the basic operational needs of public universities.
