The University of Karachi (KU) administration has decided to expedite the completion of Semester-I 2026 examinations that were postponed due to a prolonged protest movement by teachers and the resulting disruption of academic activities, directing all faculty deans to issue revised examination schedules.

According to an official memorandum issued by KU Registrar Prof Dr Imran Ahmed Siddiqui on June 10, 2026, all Semester-I 2026 examinations that could not be conducted as scheduled must be rescheduled immediately and completed before June 29, 2026.

The circular stated that, in order to ensure the timely completion of examinations, papers may also be held on Saturdays and Sundays if required. The university administration has instructed all departmental chairpersons to make necessary arrangements for the smooth and timely conduct of examinations.

The registrar said the decision had been taken with the approval of the vice chancellor as part of efforts to restore normal academic activities and ensure that first-semester examinations are completed before the commencement of the second semester.

In a related move, the university has also declared Fridays as working days from June 12 to help accelerate the completion of pending academic and examination-related tasks.

The decision comes after weeks of disruption caused by protests staged by teachers, officers and employees over salary and pension-related issues. The agitation had severely affected teaching and examination activities across the campus.
